Retinal photography allows Dr. Yee to record a detailed view of the retina (the tissue at the back of the eye). The high-resolution picture that is generated provides an excellent reference point for future comparisons. Photo documentation is a great tool for early detection and management of ocular problems such as macular degeneration, retinal holes, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
During a routine exam, Dr. Yee may want to examine a patient’s side vision. Visual field testing assesses the presence of blind spots in a patient’s field of view that may be due to eye disease. Optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma or brain abnormalities such as those caused by stroke or tumours can create visual field defects. It is recommended that patients with glaucoma or a family history of glaucoma have visual field testing on a regular basis.
